The Goal Zero portable power solutions and Light-a-Life LED lantern, design by Utah-based Rocketship, are featured in the current issue of Curve magazine.
The article, titled Portable Power notes that “the lightweight Goal Zero Escape power pack is a particularly appealing ergonomic design with the sleek, thermos-shaped silver pack hanging from a large, round, rubberized handle. The pack can power – among other things- a low power, long lasting LED light designed as an indestructible, flexible light that can stand or hang”.
BYU and Rocketship teamed up to create the World Cart, an affordable, engineered hand cart. The World Cart provides individuals from developing economies a way to raise personal income by increasing the amount of goods that can be transported by one person. As is so common in developing economies, individuals carry goods by hand, on back or head. These methods are physically demanding and limit both the amount of transported goods and the income that is made from selling the goods. Tested to carry up to 230 Kg, the World Cart dramatically improves the amount of goods one person can transport.
The World Cart also creates business opportunities by offering enterprising people an open source blue-print for building the cart and when assembled can be sold to others. By using affordable and readily available materials, an individual can easily produce the cart from one piece of ply wood using basic wood working tools.

The World Cart is typically used by people who live in rural communities to transport produce, supplies and other items to and from town. Shown here is a typically community outside of Puno Peru where the Wold Cart was tested.
The World Cart was prototyped and tested multiple times before the final design was taken to Peru to be built, field tested and introduced to local communities.
Locals are introduced to the concept. The World Cart is easily adaptable to meet various needs, including bike attachment or addition of fabric side walls to carry light weight / high volume materials like hay.
