LifeSpan Fitness

The Recumbent Stepper is an innovative fitness solution developed initially by Lifespan. The initial internal layout was provided to Rocketship which then addressed the human factors, styling, and industrial design as well as provided input to refine the mechanism design and provided design for manufacturing support.

The design drew upon many inspirational forms, products, and references while adding Rocketship’s flavor. The various details were addressed individually and as part of the larger system including the pedals, chair, cladding, handles, console, etc.

The proposed concepts were reviewed in more detail and checked against the underlying structure to ensure proper fit and range of motion. The console was developed with coordination with the Lifespan team to ensure the info was presented clearly and completely.

Getting beyond sketches and CAD, physical mock-ups were build to review the overall design at human scale. The ergonomics, safety features, and construction were reviewed to ensure that the final product would meet the project objectives and be ready for real-world use.

The final deliverable was a full MCAD database which addressed the mechanical, electrical, and digital aspects of the design ready for manufacturing.
