OVERVIEW

People like to get around when traveling to big cities and many modes of transportation don’t provide the convenience and versatility of a scooter. Many scooter rentals have cropped up around the world but there are some disadvantages such as finding a scooter nearby or not being able to take them into buildings (leaving them outside where someone else may rent it by the time it’s needed again). The Touring Scooter provides a new approach in a compact form factor. The scooter has large wheels for the more comfortable riding experience while also folding up small enough that it can be carried inside to museums and other points of interest.

DESIGN

The design process began with explorations into various folding methods that aimed at user-friendly experiences with intuitive interaction points that avoid pinching fingers. Each connection needed to be solid for a smooth riding experience.

FOLDING

The folding experience aimed to provide a full-size adult scooter that folds down to a back-pack ready form factor in a few intuitive steps. The handles fold down flush with the stem to eliminate protrusions that can knock things over. The front wheel folds back to reduce the overall length. The deck flips up to provide a flat and comfortable surface when placed in a backpack against the user’s back. Even with the articulating parts, the solid frame provides a stable and robust functional scooter with a lightweight construction.
