People’s Choice award

2008.02.18

Since we hosted this year’s event, and Rocketship’s director, Michael Horito, is the chapter’s vice chair, we exempted ourselves from the juried entries. But we did have a few things on display. We were excited to find out that our design for the JetBoil products was given the People’s Choice award. This award was voted on by secret ballot by the 200+ attendees of the opening night. And no, we didn’t vote for ourselves.

idsa_opening1

The Rocky Mountain chapter of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA & IDSArm)) held its annual design exhibition this month at Gallery One Ten. Each year the chapter highlights the work of industrial designers in the Rocky Mountain region. Industrial Design and Product Development has been growing rapidly in the intermountain area and IDSArm has been at the forefront of assisting and promoting our profession here.
Rocketship was honored to host the event which included an open house at our studio as well. Among the 200+ attendees were the chapter officers from Denver: David Klein, chapter chair, and Mike Baranello, treasurer. It was great to see so many familiar faces from the local design community, as well a many new ones.

Studio Remodel

2008.01.31

remodel

Being a frugal lot, as new people joined our staff, we outfitted them with the best we could find on sale at local office supply stores. But hey – we are a design firm! SO naturally we wanted to design a build our own cool furniture and create a space that feels creative.
We have finally done it.  No more 40 year old orange linoleum floors.  No more beige walls and fluorescent lighting. We now have new custom designed desks, hardwood flooring, colorful surroundings and shelf space – lots of shelf space.
You need to come by and see the difference. If you haven’t been to our studio before, you definitely have to stop by for a visit.

For the third time, Rocketship displayed it’s product design and development services at the semi-annual Outdoor Retailer Winter Show.  The show highlights the leaders in the outdoor recreation industry.

Just for fun, the staff decided to build a 10 foot tall rocket in the booth, using cardboard, duct tape and tinfoil.  The rocket drew some crowds and ended up being featured in the the OR Daily magazine. What do you expect from a bunch of designers sitting around in a booth all day!
